Being a Pretty Boss is not all about business, but it's also about the self-care practices you put in place. To be great at business, you need to focus on your mental health and joy. "How?" you ask. Think of how much attention you give to making money. Your business and personal life will suffer if you are not happy and whole. Isn't that the last thing we want for ourselves?
Habits have the power to shape the course of our lives - personal, career, relational, etc - far more than we can imagine. They may seem little or ordinary on the surface, but it all adds up in the end. Take for instance a morning routine that is capable of setting the tone for your day.
Now, let's look at 5 habits that show you place a high value on your mental health:
1. A religious or spiritual practice
Let’s keep it real, life happens to everyone. We know this because the bible says that the rain falls on the just and the unjust alike. The good news is that being spiritual keeps you grounded and uplifted through the trials you will face as a business owner or professional. Some practices you can try are
meditation for 15 minutes a day
prayer
affirmations
keeping a gratitude journal.
Studies show that the religious are less likely to be suicidal, drug or alcohol addicts
2. Getting Rest
Even though we love an early morning coffee here at Pretty Boss LLC, that isn’t always the answer. We want to ensure that you are getting adequate rest. Rest provides immense health benefits, one of them being more energy. Thus, we are at our best when we rest. When you get at least 7 hours of sleep at night, you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world. Also, I found that meditating before I go to bed helps put my mind at ease and allows for a better and more peaceful night. Sleep is one form of rest - there are several other forms of relaxation. Take short breaks during the course of your day; you'll be doing yourself a whole lot of good.
3. Exercise
Hot Girl Summer part 3 is here!!! We want to start it off feeling good about ourselves, and one sure way to do that is by having an active lifestyle. It's recommended that adults exercise at least 150 minutes per week. People who exercise on a regular basis reap huge rewards. Healthy metabolism and increased brain health are only a few. One more thing, while at it, please have fun with it.
4. Drinking water
Growing up, if I ever felt “off” or had a headache, my mother would say “drink some water.” I would get annoyed because I didn’t think that water could solve all my problems. Meanwhile, the older I got, I realized water is an essential part of self-care. Often, we are so busy that we go without it for a long period of time, and then dehydration slows us down. Water can improve cognition and thinking, lubricate joints, and regulate body temperature. Cultivate the habit of drinking enough water throughout your day. You can do so by
carrying a water bottle everywhere you go
choosing water over sugary drinks
serving water during meals.
5. Doing something you enjoy
We get so busy seizing the day, that we forget that having fun is important. Fun varies from person to person. Some common examples are reading, watching a show, calling a friend, or going out. I enjoy trying out new recipes. It’s a way for me to be creative, learn, and of course, I get to enjoy the food after I’m done. Having a social life is another activity I enjoy, everyone can too. Not only does it give you a sense of belonging, but it also elevates your mood and opens up opportunities for growth.
You shouldn’t compare your journey towards greater well-being with anyone else’s. You know yourself better than anyone sis and so, you got this! Always remember, self-care is how you take your power back.
